Google Maps is a huge boon to the restaurant industry. Diners are able to research local restaurants and get directions, photos, reviews and more. Google is now taking it to the next level and will begin pointing out “best sellers” on the menu.
Google recently announced this feature that uses machine learning to highlight the most popular dishes for certain restaurants.
“Whether you’re craving a tea cocktail in Brooklyn or sampling Pacific Rim cuisine in London, Google Maps now highlights a restaurant’s most popular items on the menu, so you can place your order with confidence.”
This new popular dished feature uses a machine learning algorithm that matches menu item names with relevant photos and reviews. Google Maps users reviews and recommendations will go a long way towards helping to implement this feature.
These popular dishes will be highlighted under the overview tab of restaurant listings.
This feature is now available on Google Maps and Android devices with iOS soon to be live in the coming months.
